What is the charitable cause you are most passionate about and why?

This year I have selected:
The Hispanic Association for Colleges and Universities (HACU [Charity #10477]) and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF [Charity #11502]).
I have been a mentor for disadvantaged students since 1996, while supporting organizations that help them access educational opportunities. Through mentoring, I have been a firsthand witness of the positive changes in all these students’ lives. For example, some of the students I mentored from vulnerable communities have completed a graduate level education and/or are pursuing a graduate degree in a STEM educational program. In 2009 I led the Hispanic Association for Colleges and Universities (HACU) at FDA New England District and two talented students were supported through a HACU summer internship. Supporting and mentoring underrepresented students in a STEM disciplines is more than a simple commitment; It is my passion.

What is the charitable cause you are most passionate about and why?

I can't really say what charitable cause is a the top of list because there are so many charities that light a flame in my heart. I often designate my contribution to the Alzheimer's and Alopecia Associations because of my own personal experiences. However I can't be selfish therefore I think it is equally important to give to other charities such as Make a Wish Foundation, Soles4Souls and FareStart. All provide hope, support or a service to those who are in need and that for me is what I'm most passionate about.

Why do you give through the CFC?

I give through CFC because I trust my contributions will go towards charity cause and not a huge overhead.

How do contributions through the CFC help your cause?

Many federal employees know CFC is a tradition. My contribution helps to keep the tradition alive; makes a difference in the live of so many; and sets an example for future contributors.
