Neglected dogs find safety at our shelter

Jayne after receiving surgery and love at the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County

Confiscated from her home due to cruelty and neglect, Jayne was shut down, terrified, and in immense pain. A past injury to one of her legs had not received proper treatment, and she had lost the ability to bear weight or flex it. A surgery from our expert vet team to amputate her leg gave Jayne newfound freedom from constant pain. And with loving care and attention from our staff and volunteers, Jayne finally had the freedom to trust humans again.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County provided over 7,000 animals in need with the individualized care they deserved. So many animals, like Jayne, were healed physically and emotionally and are now in homes of their own!

Jayne will never feel the same fear, loneliness, and overwhelming pain that she felt before coming to the shelter. What was once a life of suffering is now a life filled with loving care and affection. Jayne is a beloved pet, cuddling on the couch, zooming around the backyard, and begging for belly rubs. Thanks to friends like you, she is a strong, confident dog who will always know love and safety.
