Kennedy Krieger Foundation - You Are the Face of Change!

Thanks to generous donors like you, kids like Journee make remarkable progress at Kennedy Krieger Institute.

As a donor through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), you already know – YOU are the face of change. And all of us here at Kennedy Krieger Institute are so grateful for your participation.

If you’re new to the CFC or to Kennedy Krieger, let us introduce ourselves.

Located in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C., region, Kennedy Krieger Institute is internationally recognized for improving the lives of more than 25,000 children and adults every year.

Despite the challenges of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve had so many successes and innovations take place at Kennedy Krieger during this time, including:

• In July 2020, the Institute launched its Pediatric Post-COVID-19 Rehabilitation Clinic for young people under the age of 21 who have recovered from the acute phase of the COVID-19 virus, but who need assistance regaining lost neurologic and physical functioning because of the illness.
• In September 2020, the Institute deepened its commitment to anti-racism with the creation of the Office for Health, Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity (O-HEID), whose mission is to provide and create evidence- and equity-based resources for those who work, train and receive services at Kennedy Krieger. The O-HEID will improve health and well-being for the entire Kennedy Krieger community by supporting and prioritizing diversity and belonging.
• In November 2020, the Institute welcomed Erika Augustine, MD, MS, as its inaugural associate chief science officer and the director of its Clinical Trials Unit. Dr. Augustine will lead the way in developing a new, ambitious path to expanding its work in finding, developing and honing treatments for patients.
• In April 2021, music therapists designed individualized music therapy kits for at-home use, as part of virtual learning. The kits fit the needs of each student and included small instruments as well as sensory items to help students with relaxation and calming, including stress balls, fidget cubes and bubbles.
• In July 2021, we opened our state-of-the-art pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit to assess children with seizure disorders, especially those with other neurodevelopmental disabilities.
• Now, we’re supporting students with complex medical conditions and their families as they navigate going back to school. And, we are actively promoting neurodiversity at work and helping individuals with disabilities find meaningful employment.

Thank you for making this work possible every day. Your ongoing workplace gifts are so important to us and to our patients, students, and families. You truly are the face of change.
