Extra care is here when they need it

When Luna needed extra care, the Montgomery County Humane Society was there to provide it.

Luna is a two-year-old pit mix whom the Montgomery County Humane Society first rescued, along with her litter mates, abandoned in a bin next to a dumpster in March, 2019. The puppies were underweight, covered in urine and feces and suffering from intestinal parasites. Thanks to the generous support of people like you, we were able to bring them to safety, treat their parasites, provide them with spay/neuter and life-saving vaccinations, and give them a safe place to await their new homes. And, they quickly did!

There are few things more satisfying than seeing a homeless animal go home, and these puppies were no exception. But that’s not always the end of the story. Your gifts enable us to make a lifetime commitment to the animals we help.

In the fall of 2020, Luna returned. She had developed two luxating patellae (dislocated kneecaps), and her owner couldn’t afford the corrective surgery she needed. Again, thanks to the generosity of our donors and a partnering veterinarian, we could give Luna the surgery she needed. For her recovery, we placed Luna in a foster home where she could get the specialized care she needed most. Luna’s medical condition could have ended her life without the generosity of MCHS donors. Thank you for supporting Montgomery County Humane Society this year.
