COVID or not - the need for training continues

Since the onset of global lockdown due to the pandemic, Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO) has been working to expand teaching and training opportunities for colleagues at our partner institutions around the world through e-learning. At Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital (SKMH) in Kampot, Cambodia, a new e-learning project was started in order to provide emergency medicine training on a variety of topics identifed as a priority by the hospital. The topics included: emergency dermatology, emergency ENT, emergency ophthalmology, emergency toxicology, acute kidney injury, electrolytes imbalance, and echocardiography. From the initial request through the selection of lecture topics and identification of qualified volunteers, HVO was able to roll-out this training project in the fall of 2020. Five HVO volunteers have provided seven lectures to SKMH physicians since the fall.
