Welcome Home, Sir.

We. Empower. Veterans.

"Mike" is a 71-year-old United States Marine Corps (USMC) Vietnam Combat veteran. This veteran originally came to the Veterans One-stop Center of WNY (VOCWNY) looking for alternative housing. He recently lost his girlfriend and could not afford his current housing. "Mike" was able to find new affordable housing with some help from a few local contacts with which VOCWNY could connect the veteran. After discussing the veteran's military history, a VOCWNY Case Manager encouraged the veteran to speak with our local Vet Center about his combat experience, in addition to filing a claim with a benefits representative to obtain further healthcare benefits from the VA. A VOCWNY Case Manager was also able to help the veteran obtain his military records -which he thought could no longer be found. The veteran has now been working with the Buffalo Vet center for almost 2 years and can now receive mental health services directly from the VA. He was unable to qualify previously. "Mike" is also working with both the American Legion and a representative from a local legislator's office to have his Discharge formally upgraded in order to qualify for more significant VA benefits in the future.
