Volunteer Firefighters Use Granted Tools to Rescue Trapped Driver

Within one week of receiving its new vehicle extrication equipment, Midway Volunteer Fire Department jumped into action after a pickup truck lost control and rolled across four lanes of traffic, leaving the driver stuck in his vehicle. Firefighters used the newly awarded tools to remove the patient from the truck and allow EMS to provide medical care.

Firefighters arrived on scene and found a woman trapped in her vehicle, underneath a tractor-trailer. The crew quickly removed the vehicle’s doors in order to provide emergency services to the patient but had to lift the trailer to complete the rescue. Firefighters used the new equipment to stabilize and lift the tractor-trailer and allow the vehicle to be removed from underneath it.

Within 30 minutes of arrival, firefighters extricated the patient and airlifted her to a local hospital.
