Whether you’re a long-time supporter of The Doorways through CFC, or brand new to us, we want to express our thanks for the amazing support we have received from this program through the years. Your support makes a tremendous difference in the lives of thousands of patients and their loved ones who need a warm, safe and caring place to stay during their medical crisis. Patients like Clinton Bonner whose kind demeaner and story captured the hearts of everyone at The Doorways over the last year.

Clint Bonner experienced our community of healing firsthand. This father and Naval Reservist from Fredericksburg received life altering news when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma Leukemia in September of 2019. Immediately, Clint got to work, undergoing intensive hyper-CMap therapy to shrink his tumors. He then came to Richmond for a stem cell transplant. The stress was piling up – Clint was searching for a place to live, working to piece together where he would stay with caregivers. Mere days before signing an apartment lease, Clint found out about The Doorways through his physicians at Massey Cancer Center.

“It was a Godsend. The low cost, the shuttle, the food from volunteers – you can’t put a price on that level of service.” Clint stayed at The Doorways for over a year, receiving two stem cell transplants and making friends along the way with guests and staff alike. Throughout his stay, he relied on the love of his family to carry him through his treatment with several of them rotating as caregivers staying with him at The Doorways. His daughter Mikayla, pictured above, even served as one of his donors, reinforcing the power of loved ones in the healing journey for our guests. Before checking out, Clint wanted to give back to recognize the way The Doorways cares for all people. He became a monthly donor, sustaining our work with his ongoing generosity. As he continues his recovery at home, he remains grateful for his time at The Doorways and the “peace of mind” that we offered.

Stories like Clint’s illustrate the impact of The Doorways. We ensure equity of care, stave off financial hardship, and offer emotional support for thousands every year. In fact, over 34% of guests report that The Doorways helped them avoid foreclosure or eviction and 79% of guests indicated that we had a positive impact on their level of stress.

Our life-saving work is only possible because of the support of people like you. With your partnership, we can be there for our guests, offering a bit of kindness and few of home’s comforts when they’re most needed.
