Meet Jannetta - Spring 2021 Grad

Jannetta, Spring 2021 Graduate

What circumstances brought you to where you were before you joined Together We Bake?

Jannetta: I was bought to TWB through the Guest House program. I was basically just going through my days bored with no direction. The classes I was taking through the Guest House were not fulfilling my need for improvement and growth. Then I found a flier talking about this program called Together we bake.

What inspired you to apply to Together We Bake?

Jannetta: The name alone inspired me, Together We Bake. Together wasn’t something familiar to me. I was spending a lot of time alone and depressed, needing a change, some encouragement, a light at the end of my tunnel, and after doing the phone interview I knew I had found it with TWB. The vibe was so positive and welcoming, I knew I wanted to be a part of this team.

How has Together We Bake changed your perspective on life?

Jannetta: Never have I seen women who are so different blend so well. The environment is light and delicious like the cookies they bake. I have never once felt judged or misunderstood, and that is so refreshing coming from where I come from. I now look at life as a positive, I really believe I can do anything I put my mind to. I feel so encouraged and empowered.

Has someone at Together We Bake (a fellow participant, a volunteer, an instructor, etc) had a particular influence on you?

Jannetta: They have all had a very big, positive impact on my life, but if I had to choose Liz and Hannah have really touched me because they represent the struggles I’ve been through; their stories are not exactly the same as mine but they give me hope.

How would you describe Together We Bake?

Jannetta: Total and complete Women's Empowerment.

What do you feel is the most valuable thing Together We Bake does?

Jannetta: TWB gives women like me hope, and a second chance to excel and show the world our worth.

What is the most valuable thing you learned at Together We Bake?

Jannetta: I am worthy of change, I am worthy of greatness, I can if I will.

Do you have any specific memories of experiences at Together We Bake?

Jannetta: My most fond memory is my very first class. I remember feeling so nervous and then when everyone came in smiling it was like yes I’m home.

What was the most challenging thing about the program? How did you overcome that challenge?

Jannetta: The digital literacy class was a challenge for me. I was computer illiterate, but now because I spend so much time on the computer I can actually perform small tasks.

What is something you are proud of that you achieved because of your participation in Together We Bake?

Jannetta: I achieved a sense of self, my self-confidence has soared thanks to TWB.

What advice do you have for women considering applying to Together We Bake?

Jannetta: Please do it! You will leave a different person. I am so grateful to the women of TWB for your contribution to my recovery. Because of your positive influence, my chances of making it have increased 100%. I love you and I thank you for this wonderful opportunity.
