Everyone Deserves a Safe Home, Including Our Veterans

Robert was not exaggerating when he told Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada's staff that he has led a very exciting life. Within a short conversation, he recalled fighting in the Korean War, serving in Germany as the Berlin Wall was going up, and assisting with the capture of two bank robbers. Robert is a true, hardworking American hero.

Robert lives with his wife Alice in their Las Vegas home. The sweet couple has been married for 54 years and still enjoy spending all their time together. However, over the last few years, they have both developed severe health issues that require most of their time and money. When Robert and Alice's A/C went out in the middle of the summer heat, the couple had no way of repairing it themselves. Together with their community partners, Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada repaired their A/C, cleaned up their yard, painted their house, and revitalized their home during National Rebuilding Day. National Rebuilding Day is an annual volunteer day of service that is focused on revitalizing communities throughout the nation. Robert was overjoyed to receive assistance and declared, "We love all the angels coming to help us!" He went on to explain that "the troubles I'm having with my home are nothing compared to my worries with my wife. [It’s] nice to take a little stress off with a nice home so I can focus on my wife.”

In Southern Nevada, over 38% of homes are in an unsafe condition. Many of these homes belong to seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. With your help, more veterans, like Robert, will be able to age safely in their homes. Please consider donating to Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada today. You can help turn someone’s house into a home.
