ENDING SUFFERING AND IMPROVING THE OUTCOMES OF VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, CHILD ABUSE AND SEX TRAFFICKING-- GIVING A VOICE TO THE VOICELESS AND HOPE TO THE HOPELESS

National Victim Advocacy Alliance is committed to the safety and well-being of our clients, and we take the necessary and crucial steps to always protect our client’s identity; therefore, client details are altered for their protection. Our clients are more than “numbers” to us, but here we are using a number to shield the identity of the client as an added measure of security.

According to the CDC more than 10 million adults experience domestic violence each year in the United States.
Domestic violence is about power, and control and victims of domestic violence do not play a part in their abuse, do not share responsibility for the abuse. The abuser who seeks power and control over the victim using abusive and violent means to acquire and maintain control is solely responsible for the abuse.
When clients come to us, they are frightened, confused, desperate and feel hopeless. When Client #47 came to National Victim Advocacy Alliance she had a long history of domestic violence that included physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, and financial abuse. Both she and her children were being abused by her ex-husband. They were not allowed to attend church and she was prevented from working, clear power, and control tactics. When she fled the abuse with her children she had nowhere to go. Domestic Violence is the 3rd leading cause of homelessness among families according to the National Coalition for the Homeless. Client #47 contacted National Victim Advocacy Alliance when she was hopeless and beaten down; her abuser had increased his terror on her and their children with overt death threats, stalking and technology abuse, using spyware and GPS to surveil her and the children.
We were able to immediately assist and support Client #47 and her children. She was assigned a Domestic Violence Advocate, a safety plan was established for her and her children, her advocate accompanied her to court to obtain an Order of Protection and never left her side, she was enrolled in the Address Confidentiality Program as first step protective measures.
After completing our Domestic Violence Education and Healthy Relationships courses, she regularly attended private counseling sessions as well as support groups and she began to take back her power and make decisions over her own life that she was forbidden to do under her abuser like attend church, get a job and go back to school. With the help and support of our trauma-informed evidence-based counselors, life coaches and advocates Client #47 began to dream again and let hope back into her life. She and her children are thriving. Her daughters are both attending college and she has been promoted twice at her job and is now a department manager.
Each client’s case and circumstances are different, and our approach is based on every client’s unique needs. The supportive services and resources that we provide are designed to get victims on the road to thriving and living a life free of abuse and exploitation.
