The Dogs Need You And So Do We

Camelot waiting for his forever home

Mid-Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue, Inc (MAGSR) serving Northern Virginia, Maryland, Southern parts of Pennsylvania and Delaware has over 22 years of experience saving the lives of German Shepherds dogs and German Shepherd mixes. We take in not only young and healthy dogs but dogs that are senior, sick, injured, abused and in need of extensive vetting and rehabilitation. We provide loving foster homes for our neediest dogs – seniors, puppies and those needing special care. Others are housed at a local kennel where our volunteers visit them to walk and ensure they are socialized, trained, and groomed. Our kennel partner also participates in weekday walking, bathing, and training, as necessary. We have a robust application process which ensures a high rate of forever adoptions. We also have several volunteer opportunities available.

When you visit our website, be sure to visit the GA38 story. We rescued 38 dogs from a breeder-hoarder situation in Georgia. The dogs were in horrific condition – starving, sick, dying, injured, emaciated, dehydrated and feral. They had no socialization, no vetting, and no human kindness shown to them. They were kept outside in cattle pens with no food or clean water. MAGSR had never undertaken such a large rescue effort of this type nor with dogs in this condition. Our volunteers and donors really stepped up, as well as our partner vet. Each dog had at a minimum a week of medical boarding – most needed more. The dogs were terrified of people, some would only eat at night. Slowly, over weeks and months, the dogs started to adjust and welcome regular food, clean water, feeling healthy, being clean, and treats and belly rubs. It was extremely rewarding to watch the change in them. Over time, we were able to begin adopting them to loving families willing to spend the extra time and TLC needed. Happily, over a year’s time, all were adopted.

Typically, our efforts aren’t so herculean – a pregnant female, a stray here or there, or an owner surrender are more common. We get calls from shelters and others asking that we take a dog who has been hit by a car and needs surgery or puppies who have parvo – a highly contagious and deadly disease. We accept as many as we can based upon our resources which is where you come in. With your contributions, you make it possible for MAGSR to rescue and save more dogs lives – we are often their last hope. Visit our website, see what we do. We think you’ll be convinced. Thank you in advance for your interest and support.
