Crime Victim Family Assisted by 211

A woman contacted 211 for assistance. This family, dual parents, with 2 minor children (ages 7 and 14), were a victim of a drive-by shooting. Both parents were shot in the home suffering severe injuries. The injures have prevented both parents from continuing employment. When the mom first called into 211, she feared she was going to be evicted. Her family and friends had been assisting the family with all their bills for the past several months. Unfortunately, they ran out of people that could continue assisting them. Now, the landlord has issued a three-day notice and was threatening to file the eviction in court. Another organization has agreed to assist with next month's rent if 211 would assist with the current month's rent. A request for financial assistance was submitted on behalf of the family to 211. The family's request for assistance was approved. The client was informed of the assistance she was receiving and the calmness in her voice indicated there was a relief of some of the stress they had been dealing with for months. After the call, 211 received an email from Inquirer that stated: "I'm in tears. So much has been lifted off my chest. I just want to thank you again for the help." For not for the assistance from 211 and other organizations, this family would have been homeless while dealing with medical issues.
